Nightmare Alley has me divided. One one hand there's Toni Collette, in a smaller role perhaps, but perfoming amazingly. (I mean you have to be a good actress to pretend to be attracted to Bradley Cooper.) Willem Dafoe and Ron Perlman were great. I even liked Cate Blanchett (not usually a fan of her). appreciate guillermo's continued commitment to good color grading but damn if this isn't a passionless plea for another oscar. all the character and weird dark humor i associate with del toro has been sanitized into a netflix friendly prestige drama. imagine having a cast this stacked and making them limply chat with each other like a highschool production of no exit. the second half almost pulled me in before being undercut by an excruciatingly blunt (and weirdly conservative) ending. what an indictment on 2021 that this is up for best picture. read more

لم اقرا الرواية المقتبس منها العمل، ولكن شاهدت الفيلم الكلاسيكي الذي يحمل نفس العنوان للمخرج إيدموند غولدنج ومن الطبيعي ان تحدث مقارنة أثناء مشاهدة هذا العمل كنت منتظرة اشوف غرائبية العالم اللي دائما بيقدمها ديل تورو الفيلم ده إذا ما قورن بالفيلم القديم هيتظلم لان الفيلم القديم كانت مدته اقل، وبالتالي المخرج والكاتب اشتغلوا على تكثيف الشخصيات اكتر، بمعنى شخصية ستان البطل الرئيسي للعمل كان من اول ظهوره وهو دوافعه واضحة للمشاهد، انه استغلالي وعايز يوصل بأي طريقة، واستغل كل الشخصيات وتحديدا النسائية للوصول لهدفه ولكن في الفيلم الجديد ديل تورو قدم الشخصية على مهل جدا افتتاحية الفيلم بتوضح غموض... read more

I wish Del Toro's writing could keep up with his directing. Wants to be a big prestigious fare but doesn't quite have the magic touch that his best films have. It's sturdy production will get it a couple nominations and One Perfect Shot will probably bleed it dry, but it just felt a little too flat to fill it's long runtime, and Bradley Cooper never quite feels like the complex troubled man he's supposed to be. read more

Já vou logo dizendo que Cate é maravilhosa rouba a cena em todos os momentos. Achei o filme muito extenso mais entendi o motivo do material ser desta maneira a fim de explicar duas partes que no final se completam, porém a sensação que me deu várias vezes é que o roteiro é lento e temos que ter paciência para ele se desenrolar, acredito que nem todo mundo tera essa paciência. Tirando isso o material consegue agradar pelos bons atores, fotografia impecável e a identidade única que o Guilhermo tenta trazer as suas produções. read more

Dopo una pausa dal suo ultimo film premio Oscar, del Toro ritorna alla regia, stavolta con una sceneggiatura non originale. L'impatto visivo dettato da un'ottima fotografia di Dan Laustsen, già al lavoro con del Toro in più occasioni, è sicuramente il pilastro su cui si regge buona parte della pellicola.
