i've tried, but the movie hit all the wrong notes for me since the very beginning. human drama? check. child? check. cheesiness? check. the only interesting character who is also played by someone i was actually excited to watch being revealed as... uh, misguided quasi-villain vs the high-drama white dude? sigh. both sides being heavy on militaristic bombast? check. also, it takes guts (and not in a good way) to have the party-in-the-wrong be the one who warns about climate change in 2019 and the good guys the us military and a corporation. nuff said, really. i couldn't even *get* to the the... read more

the most realistic and believable relationship in this movie is mothra and godzilla. the family drama in this movie is some of the most unconvincing and least compelling plots i've seen in a while. unfortunately, it takes up 70 percent of the movie. we want to see godzilla and mothra and gidorah, not wooden acting from chandler and farmiga. if you need to put human drama in there, at least make it compelling. read more

a few things... 1) godzilla being so juiced up on radiation that he melts the buildings around him? hardcore 2) godzilla and mothra are dating. i don't make the rules 3) king ghidorah posing in a volcanic cloud behind a cross lives rent free in my head. i originally gave this movie 2 stars because the plot was stupid af, but i'm bumping it up because the monsters all looked so good and i like monster fights :) the mom is still a stupid hoe tho read more

the monster fights are pretty good, but they are only 25 minutes of the runtime. the other 100 or so minutes follows undeveloped human characters delivering exposition while the audience waits for something to happen. this should be coming in at a tight 75 minutes with a simplified plot and way fewer characters. the fights themselves were generally pretty good, but they still couldn't resist hiding them in rain, at night, behind closing blast doors, and on the other side of jets. they even made it a plot point that king gidorrah travels with his own storm. just have the confidence to show us... read more

hm... hmmmmmmmm!!! okay, look: first half? pretty bad. ugly & drab, too many human characters getting in the way of monster screen time, where are the classic theme songs, etc. second half? now we're talking. theme songs, a lot of monster action, plenty of callbacks to golden age godzilla movies, i was into it. at worst this feels like a michael bay transformers movie, but there are also moments where it feels more like the rock or some 90s shit like that. i don't mind kyle chandler but having nic cage there would've helped a lot while i was waiting for the good(zilla) stuff. read more

i had a write up here that was merely favorable- albeit with a relatively negative slant. however, i don't think it reflects my opinions of the movie even only two days later. i still think the cast is wasted on badly written characters and a really underwhelming story, but everything else is absolutely grand. kotm functions admirably as a bombastic kaiju flick that pits its titanic-sized monsters against each other with sincere enthusiasm and unbridled glee. this movie has all the epic mayhem and 'zilla lore i've ever wanted from the franchise. godzilla movies where he's a legitimate read more

prepping for godzilla vs kong part 3 alright, here's the thing: everything related to classic godzilla is there, including wacky scientists, a technological mcguffin, and even a weirdly themed group of bad guys. it also includes countless easter eggs and references to multiple classic godzilla films, including but not limited to burning godzilla, mothra existing just to die, and the oxygen destroyer. i really think one of the main issues with this film is that it's overstuffed with too much stuff that most of the audience won't really understand. even though i'm fairly well-versed in classic... read more

theyre everywhere. battling for dominance. so many monsters, awesome sense of scale that gives the sense of what it might be like to see one of these creatures, thats really what this movie is about. forget the characters, the drama, the pretty lame plot (except all the stuff with godzilla himself), it all serves to be a playground and reason to have giant monsters fight, and there is an itch inside that gets scratched when you watch this movie, its pretty bad ass and a fun movie for monster fans. 6/10 read more

This was actually one of my favorite movies of 2019. It definitely amped up the monster battles from the first movie. better than the 2014 Godzilla in one way, this time we can actually see the monsters instead of obscuring them in darkness and cgi smoke all the time. unfortunately, it still suffers from the same major problem that movie had, constantly cutting away from the monster action to show us what the human characters are doing. its not as bad as the 2014 Godzilla, but its still a problem. can they get it right with their third attempt when they give us Godzilla Vs Kong, or will it be 3 strikes for them? read more

I don't know why they keep persisting on bringing out these movies, probably good money spinners I guess. The cast is pretty good although they don't have to do much with all the CGI in it which is pretty lame at times for a 2019 movie. There is just a bit too much going on at times and it all gets a bit of a mess and I couldn't really lost track of what was happening. Pretty average read more

In the 2014 film, Godzilla was secondary to the human story-lines and the result was a ponderous unexciting movie. King Of The Monsters addresses this and then some, Godzilla and his adversaries are front and center, the destruction is large-scale as the titans face off against each other.
