a fat, juicy, jumbo-sized sundae of a courtroom drama that left me wanting more, more, more! the morality here is so iffy and you can't help but think, even after those 3 hours, you haven't gotten the full story. or maybe ben gazzara and his wife were just weird like that? but it's really jimmy stewart's character you're rooting for. he's an absolute riot in this and you're right there with him in winning the case more than you care about his client's fate. in retrospect i love that it shows us an imperfect trial. as much as i love a crazy, twisty climax, that's not what reality is read more

For my classic this week I thought I would try courtroom drama and this is one of the better films. James Stewart plays a lawyer trying to get his client off a murder charge. Stewart's performance shows why he is one of the greatest actors of our time. All performances were fine but I thought Lee Remick could of been a bit more convincing as a rape victim, maybe it was just the era. Well worth a look. read more
