the movies in the fast & furious franchise are getting more and more over the top, but audiences keep coming back in droves for more. after the death of protagonist paul walker, they managed to incorporate a nice tribute for him with furious 7 (2015) and thus also put a dignified end to the story. despite this, fast makes a lot of money, producing more sequels and also the spin-off hobbs & shaw (2019). even i can honestly confess to have entertained myself with previous parts, but with fast 9 (2021) the cake really looks like it. each installment seems to take things up a notch when it comes to the nonsensical things that happen on screen. this time vin diesel has almost turned into a superhero, he seems so strong and nothing can stop him. the stunts and action scenes related to the cars also go a step too far in terms of realism. you can bungee a car with one rope or simply mount a rocket on a car and launch it into space, in fast 9 it is all possible. only the giant magnet brings some creativity with it, as it makes the cars fly around your ears left and right in a comical way. the plot of the fast & furious franchise was never something to write home about, but in this ninth installment it is clear that the makers no longer knew what to do. all the well-known clichés that you apply because you no longer have interesting ideas are discussed here. the lost brother who suddenly returns as a villain or bring back a fan-favorite character (han) from the dead with a lame excuse to fill the cast a bit more (given the absence of dwayne johnson and jason statham in this film). in my opinion, these kinds of choices, such as bringing han back, are worth punishing. this only creates more holes in the plot and it also has a negative impact on the stories of the previous parts. fast & furious 9 (2021) actually weakens some of its predecessors. in my opinion one of the biggest sins a movie can commit. unfortunately, the end is not yet in sight. hobbs & shaw is getting a sequel, fast number ten and eleven are also in the queue, as well as a spin-off with villain cipher (charlize theron) in the lead role. in short, as long as it makes money, fast & furious will continue to produce new movies - and i'll be there to review them.
